Today in my reading the giver told Jonas about the previous or supposed to be giver. He said that he name was rose mare and that she was really nice. HE said that she was much like Jonas and that she was willing to learn and explore new things. The giver only showed he all of the good memories and did not want her to get hurt. HE showed Jonas all of the good and bad memories because he wanted him to learn. Once he showed Rosemary the bad memories she started to realize how the real world was and that she could not take it. She went to the chief elder and requested to be released. She did it her self and she was gone. One thing that Jonas did not know is that Rosemary was the giver's daughter and that he truly loved her. That is why it hurt him so much/.
Today in my reading, the giver was talking to Jonas and Jonas wanted to know what released meant. The giver asked him why this question came to mind and Jonas said that his father was doing a release on a twin and he just wanted to know what the whole process was about. The giver went to the recorder and said that the needed a tape of this mornings release. The recorder said OK and in no time they had the tape. They started watching it and Jonas was just so amazed and he kept saying that that was his father and the giver kept shushing him. HE watched more as the process went on and when he realized what was going on he was heart broken. The tape stopped and Jonas was furious. His father had killed the twin for no simple reason and had walked away like nothing had happened. This was the day that Jonas had learned about DEATH.
Today in my reading, Jonas was still mad about what his father had done ans he did not want to go home at all. The giver said that that was OK because he wanted him to just stay with him for the night. They had a lot to talk about. The giver explained to him that that was how the world was and that it was a sad thing. The world did not kill babies, the let them live, but people were dying every day and that was just how things were. Jonas was still upset but he slowly bagan to understand.
